Life story
"Steven Randolph Frazier was born December 15, 1952 to the late Frederick Frazier, Sr and Rosa Frazier Barnett. On April 14, 2025 he peacefully departed this life to join his Lord and Savior in Glory.
Steve was born in Charlottesville, VA and grew up there and in nearby areas. Many of his fondest childhood memories were made visiting his grandparents at Birdwood Farm, fishing in the lake, and playing with cousins. Steve played Little League Baseball and made the AllStar team as a catcher. As an adult he enjoyed playing softball and played on several teams. He could play every position on the field and played them all well. Steve coached a parks and rec basketball team one season as well as a parks and rec soccer team for awhile. His first season as a soccer coach his team came in last place. Steve was not at all discouraged and after just a few seasons his team won the county championship. He later coached a travel soccer team for several years with much the same results, starting at the bottom but quickly becoming league champions. After his coaching days Steve has always loved watching soccer, most recently watching Raylan and Michael play.
Steve was always a hard worker and over his lifetime he held many diverse jobs. At one time Steve worked on a horse farm helping to care for racehorses. He worked on a large farm in Smithfield VA that his stepfather managed. Later he worked for Leggett Department Store. Most of Steve’s career was spent in the telecommunications field. He began working as a contractor for Centel Phone Company in 1973 and was soon hired as a company draftsman. He was later promoted to engineer. After relocating and being hired as an engineer at another telephone company he later became the manager in one of their engineering offices. During his career Steve became co-owner of a local engineering firm with others that have become lifetime friends. He went on to own a small telecommunications business. His employees were like family to him. Steve always valued providing a quality product over making a profit and always strove to make sure his customers were completely satisfied. Steve continued to operate his business until he had to retire because of his health issues.
During his long career in the telecommunications field Steve took a couple breaks to pursue other things. In 1983 Steve became an ordained minister and pastor of a small church. In 1986 Steve and his family moved to the Fredericksburg area and Steve continued to serve as needed for pulpit supply. Steve and his family joined Hollywood Church of the Brethren and he especially enjoyed whenever he was asked to speak to his church family. In 2003 Steve took a position as Executive Director of Camp Eder in Fairfield PA. He spent 2 years in this position before returning to the Fredericksburg area. After returning he continued to serve Hollywood Church of the Brethren as Sunday school teacher, deacon, elder, trustee, and lay speaker. He loved to teach the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-12). They were Steve’s code of ethics and the way he conducted himself. He was respectful, kind, and handled conflicts/confrontations well. He exemplified wisdom, grace, and restraint in all of his leadership roles. Steve had wisdom for finances and excelled at creating the budget for the church annually. He will be missed by the leadership and all of the church family. Until his illness Steve also enjoyed spending a week each summer serving at Camp Mardela in Denton MD where he also made many lifelong friends.
In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Woodrow and Dexie Altice, and his stepfather, Alton Barnett, all who were like his own parents. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Frederick Frazier, Jr.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Mary Sue Frazier, his sons, Steven Frazier, Jr and wife Laura, Fred Frazier and wife Brandie, and Neal Frazier and wife Sierra. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Sarah, Annabelle, Madeleine, Lucas, Champ, Raylan, Michael, Shawn, McKenzie, Payton, Elizabeth, Lilly, and 2 great grandchildren, two sisters, Jane Hamilton and Stephanie Palmer and husband David. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Lloyd Altice and wife Thalia, sister-in-law Mavis Hodges and husband Buck, sister-in-law Janet Robertson, and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held May 3 at Lake Ritchie Pavilion, 5305 Lake Ritchie Road, Bealeton VA. The service will begin at 12 noon with a meal to follow. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In case of rain the service and meal will be held at Hollywood Church of the Brethren, 225 Ferry Road, Fredericksburg, VA.
