Life story
"Kay Kepcke, 79, of King George, passed onto her heavenly home February 18, 2019, in Fredericksburg, Virginia at Mary Washington Hospital. A private memorial service will be arranged for her family to attend.
Kay was born on March 1, 1939, to Merle and Harriet Stanfield of Union, Iowa. She received her teaching degree in Home Economics (BS) from Iowa State University (Go Cyclones). She married John Kepcke after meeting at Iowa State. They loved and shared life together for 58 years. Kay taught Home Economics at a middle school in Liverpool while living in Syracuse, New York. In 1963 she moved to Daytona Beach, Florida (in support of her husband’s career), then moved and settled with her family in Virginia, 1975. Kay was a loving and devoted mother to her three children Jeff, Andy, and Laurie Kepcke. She was especially fond and proud of her grandson Jonathan Kepcke.
Kay had many interests; bicycling, bridge, crocheting, gardening, cooking, decorating and collecting antiques. She was an active member and president of the Fredericksburg Bicycle Club in the 1990’s. Every summer, for nearly 20 years, Kay organized and participated with her family in RAGBRAI, a bicycle ride across Iowa. Kay will be remembered as a kind person who was cheerful with plenty of determination. She will be missed beyond words.
She is survived by her three children, Jeff (Kim) Kepcke, Andy (Dara) Kepcke and Laurie Kepcke; one grandson, Jonathan Kepcke. Preceding her in death are her husband John Kepcke, her parents, Merle and Harriet Stanfield, her elder sister Martha Hall and her younger brother Tom Stanfield.
The Family would prefer a donation to any Kidney Charity in lieu of flowers, due to Kay’s and her father’s battle with kidney disease.
