Life story
"Gwendolyn “Gwenpo” Gray, 72, of Washington, D.C. passed away Thursday, April 29, 2021 in Arlington, VA. She was born July 27, 1948 to the late Richard “Crow” and Mary Lou Gray of Rocky Mount, NC.
Gwen served 30 years in the federal government. She retired in 2003, from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as a Program Specialist. After retirement, she traveled and spent quality time with her family. Any given day, you could find her watching one of her favorite shows, The Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, or any old western (black and white of course), or playing cards even though she couldn’t shuffle the deck to save her life. Gwen was known for being straight up, no chaser. She kept you laughing with her feisty, witty banter.
Gwen leaves to cherish her loving memory and legacy her son, Lamar Allen Gray (LaToya); one sister, Juanita Patrick (Harold); one brother, Linwood Gray; three grandchildren, Ashley Young, Lamarie Gray, and Darius Young; two bonus grandchildren, Ryland and Allen Young and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loving relatives, and friends.
In addition to her parents, Gwen was preceded in death by one brother, Richard June Gray and four sisters, Mary Alice Bracey, Daisy Salmon, Ola Jean Marshall, and Barbara Ann Thomas.
The family plans to gather in celebration of her life by having a balloon release. Full details will be announced at a later date."
