Life story
" It is with great sadness that the family of Donald Paul Stewart Jr announce his passing at the age of 53. Don passed on May 8, 2021 after battling COVID at Fairfax Hospital.
Born a proud Army brat in Frankfurt, Germany, Don moved around with his family before graduating Gar-Field High School in Woodbridge, VA in 1985. He would proudly tell you he did his higher education at the School of Hard Knocks. His home remains in Woodbridge.
He had a long career in construction. He built or supervised the building of many of the roadways in the Northern Virginia area. He celebrated 28 years with his W.A. Hazel family, where he is better known as Donnie.
Don loved music and participated in several local bands to include the Prince William County Band, the Heavy Metal quartet, and the Salvation Army National Capital Area Band. When visiting Don at home, you were lucky if he would sit at his baby grand and play you a little ditty. The family has many fond memories of the Stewart family band whose only annual performance was at Christmas and included Don Jr., Don Sr., his nephews and niece.
Don enjoyed time on the water, spending weekends on the Potomac with friends or spending time at Lake Anna with family skiing, tubing, fishing, and jet skiing. You might also find him smiling while riding his Harley. Or just driving around town with his favorite pit bull in the passenger seat. Don spent time developing his barbecue skills, grilling up delicious meals, while entertaining us with some legendary stories.
Whether you called him Don or Donnie, family or friend, he will be dearly missed.
Don will be forever loved by his family. Mom and Dad (Don and Lela Stewart), sister and brother-in-law (Tom and Joette Longuillo), nephews and niece (Thomas, Vincent, and Genevieve Longuillo), step-daughter (Adrianna Bryan), uncle (Ed Stewart), many cousins, and his loyal dog Casey.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association in Don’s memory.
The family will hold a memorial service on June 5, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Kirk O'Cliff Presbyterian Church 16420 Monrovia Road, Mineral, Virginia.
