"Lisa Tellervo (Elisabeth) Salonen Hentman (82), passed away peacefully at home on July 30, 2021, surrounded by family. Lisa’s remarkable life began in Kytäjä, Finland, as one of six daughters born to Sulo Salonen (father) and Sigrid Elina Salonen (mother). After graduating from high school, Lisa worked at an import/export company in Helsinki, Finland, where employees communicated in Finnish, Swedish, French and German. She then worked for a large insurance company as an adjuster and supervisor, until the birth of her youngest son, Mika. In 1968, she and her husband, Andy, and their two young sons, Jerry (Jyrki) and Mika, immigrated to the United States to start a new life, eventually settling down in northern Virginia. Many years later, Lisa would work as a cashier at Giant Foods (in Manassas, Virginia) where she would eventually retire in 2017. She is survived by her ex-husband, Andy Hentman, sons, Jerry (Amy) Hentman and Mika Hentman, grandson, Seth Hentman, step-grandchildren, Ricky Makela, Erin Doherty and Joey Doherty, and numerous other family in both Finland and America. Lisa will be best remembered for her beautiful Finnish accent, her love of animals, her kindness to everyone, and her deep love for her sons, Jerry and Mika. Her family will have a private celebration of her amazing life, as she returns to God's loving arms. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the SPCA or your local animal shelter.
