Life story

" Mark Alan Graveline, age 52, died unexpectedly at his home in Virginia on February 15th, 2022.
Mark grew up in Plattsburgh, NY and graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1988.
After high school, he served in the United States Coast Guard. He was stationed on the USCGC White Sumac, St. Petersburg, FL from 1988-92. After an honorable discharge, he earned his bachelor’s degree from University of Central Florida in 2010. He was an enthusiastic collector of UCF and Florida Gators’ souvenirs.
Starting in 2000, Mark worked at the Department of Veteran Affairs for about 20 years. He achieved a GS-12 rank as a Senior Contracting Officer assigned to the NCO-12 Equipment team in Milwaukee, WI. In 2020 he was promoted and moved to Virginia, south of Washington D.C. achieving the rank of GS-13 as a Contract Construction Officer for the U.S. National Cemetery Administration. He enjoyed his job getting to travel to many national cemeteries throughout the U.S. He contracted and managed multi-million dollar projects to honor veterans by expanding and beautifying their resting places.
He was a career-focused man, working and traveling a lot, but in his spare time he was very gifted mechanically. He loved working on cars, motorcycles, boats and repairing most anything.
In his younger years, he loved the thrill of skydiving and he enjoyed riding motorcycles, especially touring the West Coast of California and boating on the Indian River in Florida.
He was loved and will be missed by his family and many friends.
Mark’s desire was to be laid to rest in a U.S. National Cemetery.
The family will have a memorial honoring Mark at a later date.

Tribute Wall

I worked with Mark on the construction, at the VA, National Cemetery Administration before I left in January of 2021. Mark was the best teammate that anyone could ask for. He was always willing to assist in any way possible. I spoke to him a few times after I left. One day he called me up to meet him at Walmart and he brought me a going away gift. He was so thoughtful. Mark, you will be greatly missed. I am praying for your family.

Mark was my office roommate for the last 2-years in Milwaukee. We enjoyed many conversations over this time and got to become friends. He was always willing to help, mostly for things outside of work. Rest in peace Mark.

I was sad to learn of the passing of Mark. We were coworkers for a few years in Milwaukee and our relationship turned into a friendship over the last decade. We enjoyed many laughs and conversations together. I will miss him as a true friend. His presence will be felt and missed by many.
