Life story
" “The most beautiful act of faith is the one made in darkness, in sacrifice, and with extreme effort.”
~ St Padre Pio
How do you write about the woman who taught you everything, the woman who gave you the BEST childhood even when she had to be with our sister Kim at MCV? The only way I can think of is by writing “A Love Letter to our Mom in Heaven.”
Dear Mom,
We miss you so terribly and wish you were here with us, but we understand why you cannot. While we never utterly understood how you felt after losing Kim, we now have a little understanding of what it was like. When a mom dies, her child is no longer whole. The loss makes it hard to breathe. Nothing is harder than when we go to send you a text message or tag you in a Facebook post and we suddenly realize that you are not going to reply. It seems like forever since we have heard your voice or seen your face looking back at us. Sure, we have pictures and voicemails, but it is nothing compared to hearing you on the other end of a phone call or sitting on the other side of the table at Captain D’s.
Mom, how did you do it? Five kids in six years as you would say, and you did it like it was nothing. You managed to get all five of us to soccer/football practice and to top that you never missed a soccer game. Then came high school sports and no matter how far it was you always traveled to watch us compete, whether it was field hockey, soccer, wrestling, or tennis. YOU were there on the sidelines, our biggest cheerleader. You made it look so easy, managing us five kids on our summer adventures, whether it was camping up and down the Northeast of the US to Sainte Anne de Beaupre in Quebec or driving us around the countryside of Southwest England, so Hookie could tell us the story of how she met her American solider during, World War II. No matter what, you always made life for us better.
One of the things that we loved most about you, was how much you loved your animals, whether it was your Jack Russell, Minnie Mouse, Quack Quack the goose, or our pet pig Pork Chop. Your love for animals was so infectious and you were always there taking in a stray from an overwhelmed family member to just give it a home. You were two cats away from being called a “Crazy Cat Lady” but that was okay because you loved animals and loved taking care of them.
THANK YOU, Mom, for being the best mom any kid could ask for and for giving us the chance to experience a true childhood. Thank you, Mom, for being the “Firecracker” that you were. Your quick-witted humor has always made us laugh and has encouraged the dark humor we get to lighten some of the darkest times we have had. Thank you for loving us no matter how challenging it got at times. Thank you for being the BEST Grandma to your grandchildren and great grandchildren.
This past year was a rough one, but you fought like no other because you wanted to be in your home. These past few months, you were the happiest that we have seen in many years and so full of life. We hope that Heaven is beautiful; that it is everything you ever imagined it would be. We hope that you are sitting on a dock fishing with Kim, Hookie, and Grandaddy.
We will love you always and we will miss you forever. Thank you for always being the wind beneath our wings!
Love,
Jamie, Kristi, Joey, & Kerri
