" In Loving Memory
David T. Vassel, Jr., age 59, died in the VCU Critical Intensive Care Unit in Richmond, Virginia, surrounded by his wife and children, after a brave battle with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. He was a long-time resident of Fredericksburg, Virginia and a Production Forman at the Washington Post.
David is survived by his wife, Andrea (Fish), his children Amanda (Michael) Henry and David Vassel, his grandchildren, Liam and Michael, his parents, Marilyn and Dave, his sisters, Cheryl and Kim, as well as his beloved Frohnapple Family.
David was born on April 2, 1963, in Cleveland Ohio. He graduated from Midpark High School in 1981 and then Polaris Vocational School with a degree in Graphic Arts. He began working at the Washington Post in Springfield, Virginia in 1984. David married his high school sweetheart, Andrea, on June 8, 1985. On November 16, 1986 and July 28, 1988, respectively, he welcomed his treasured children, Amanda and David. His children were the most important parts of his life.
David was a devoted Husband, Father, and Grandfather. He enjoyed working on his daughter’s 1966 Mustang and mountain biking with his son. David was a problem solver and skilled craftsman. His Grandchildren often boasted “Pop can fix anything!” David often took on difficult projects at work and at home.
David will be deeply missed by all who knew him including his friends, colleagues, and family.
David’s wishes were for his wife and children to spread his ashes at the places he loved and all the places they planned to visit together. Per his wishes, there will be no services. David’s Facebook page will remain open and all are welcome to post memories and condolences there.
