" Baldwin “Mike” DiSilvestro, a longtime resident of Aiken, SC, departed this world for greener pastures on August 14, 2022. He has gone to meet God and reunite with his beloved wife, Dora “Dede” DiSilvestro. A former Officer in the U.S. Navy Seabees, Mike went on to a lengthy and rewarding career as a civil engineer with Bechtel Corp., designing and building every kind of structure known to man. His work took him and Dede around the world to the U.K., Saudi Arabia and Egypt, among other places. No place felt more like home than Aiken.
Mike was a devout Catholic and avid supporter of the church throughout his long life. Three weeks after his passing, we are still learning the extent of his charitable giving to the church and its many affiliated charities. In retirement, he became an avid golfer, amassing somewhere between five and seven holes-in-one; the true number might never be known. When not playing golf, Mike was known to spend hours at a time doing yard work which would have worn out a man thirty years younger. He always attributed his stamina to “Roman genes.”
Mike is survived by his beloved sister, Fran, six children, and a bevy of grandkids and great-grandkids too numerous to calculate. He was “Nono” to his grandkids and “Great Nono” to his great-grandkids. He was fond of telling how he had five sons in college at one time, “and none of them wanted to live in a dorm!” All five are eternally grateful for his generosity (and patience).
A memorial service for Mike will be held at noon, September 24, 2022, at the Columbarium next to St. Mary Help of Christians church in Aiken."
