Life story
"On August 30th, 2022, Suzanne “Suzi” Angel, passed away after a long, courageous battle with ovarian cancer at the age of 74. Suzi was born in 1948 in Virginia, to Howard and Patricia Mahle. Growing up, Suzi lived in Quantico and Triangle before the Mahle family settled in Prince William Estates in Dumfries. As the eldest of the 7 Mahle kids, Suzi had a deep love for, and responsibility to, family and community. She met her husband and best friend Grant at Garfield High School at the tender age of 15 and never let him go. They married in 1969 at her parents house surrounded by family and friends and started their own little family 9 years later with the addition of Sarah, David, & Kathy. Not only was Suzi a loving, supportive, funny, and caring mother to her 3 babies, she was also a mother to anyone her kids brought home. She relentlessly supported her children's endeavors and celebrated all of their achievements with pride. Her greatest joy (aside from Grant) was being a grandmother. She doted on Colby, Emily, Emma, Lilly, Stella, Lucy, Zoey, Ricky, Howie, Ophelia, Charlie & Verity. She made sure everyday to let them know how loved they were. She was also known to spoil them with an endless supply of tootsie rolls.
Suzi began her federal career with the Department of Army as a GS1 in the summer of 1966 right out of High School. She moved to the Defense Intelligence Agency for a few years and then to the Department of Air Force where she remained until her retirement. Suzi retired after 32 years of federal service in the summer of 1999. However, after less than a year Suzi went to work for Virginia Department of Transportation and then URS, a defense contractor, while waiting for Grant to retire. Suzi loved to spend her spare time at the beach or traveling in her RV with Grant, gardening, collecting and organizing fabric and craft supplies, playing the slots, finding treasures at thrift stores and yard sales, planning her high school reunions. Suzi was a devout woman who celebrated her faith and relationship with God. She was a life long member of Dumfries United Methodist Church. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her and the loss of her will be felt forever.
Suzi was preceded in death by her parents Howard & Pat Mahle, as well as her sister Jody Herod and brother Rick Mahle. She is survived by her husband and love of her life, Grant, as well as her three children: Sarah McClutchy (Patrick), David Angel (Melissa), and Kathy Angel (Matt); her siblings Linda Kelly (James), Clay Mahle (Deb), Cindy Krolik, and Tish Bowles (Tommy), as well as a plethora of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Merchant Park in Dumfries Virginia on 11 September, 2022 at 1:30pm.
“Our devastating loss here on earth is made easier knowing you just sat down to once again play bones with your mother, father, sister and brother. Continuing life without you is made easier knowing we are all awaiting our eventual call to come join.”
We will miss you, Mom.
