Life story
" Charlotte June Carter Drumheller, 81 years of age, of Fredericksburg, Virginia, passed away at home on November 19, 2022 following a struggle with cancer.
Charlotte was born on March 24, 1941 to Charles and Pauline (Hurtt) Carter in Strange Creek, Braxton County, West Virginia. She was the middle of seven children, five brothers and 1 sister. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, West Virginia in 1959.
In 1961 Charlotte married Frederick Drumheller and they had two daughters, Dianna and Janice.
Charlotte worked at C.L. Barnes Furniture Store in Alexandria, Virginia for over 30 years. After retirement she went back to work part time at Bryant Alternative School for Fairfax County Schools. Alexandria was her primary residence until moving to Fredericksburg in 2021.
Charlotte loved buying presents for her grandchildren and often opened her home to people who temporarily needed a place to stay. Her kindness and generosity were evident in her teen years when she bought clothes for her younger brothers while working at J.C. Penney Department Store.
She is survived by her two daughters, Dianna (Greg) Wissinger, Troy, Virginia; Janice (Michael) Greenough, Fredericksburg, Virginia; four grandchildren, Blair (Bryan) Rothamel, Keswick, Virginia; Aaron Wissinger, Troy, Virginia; Cara Wissinger, Madrid, Spain; and Samantha (Jake) Poole, Lynchburg, Virginia; and 2 great granddaughters; her siblings, Charles Robert (Donna) Carter, Wickcliffe, Ohio; Lonnie (Connie) Carter, Duck, West Virginia; and James Carter, Taneytown, Maryland.
She was preceded in death by her husband; grandson, Alex Hablas; brothers Gene Carter, and Oral Jefferson (O.J.) Carter, and sister Garnet (Carter) Hall.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, January 8 at 2 pm in Fredericksburg, Virginia at the Riverside Lodge in Celebrate Virginia, 10 Montera Avenue.
Memorial gifts may be made to the American Red Cross or the American Cancer Society.
