"Smiley Herndon, born Jerry Wilmore Herndon, Jr. on June 27, 1959, was the son of the late Jerry W. Herndon, Sr. and Elaine Herndon and was the brother of Rebecca Vance, Jeanie Moxley and the late Mark Herndon. He passed away peacefully at his home on December 19, 2022, at age 63.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa, of 32 years, his two stepchildren, Jason and Sherry Flory and three children, Christine Holloway (husband, Matt), Heather and Justin Herndon and his 5 grandchildren Kaelyn, Makayla, Talia, Madison and Shelby.

Smiley was a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. After graduating from high school, Smiley joined the Navy where he traveled to various countries. He served 4 years and was given an Honorable Discharge. He was a very hard worker and had recently retired. Smiley loved spending time at home with his family, weekend trips to West Virginia, planting in the garden. His favorite pastime was eating and snuggling with the family beagle, Peanut.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 am on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the Trinity Methodist Church, 9280 Old Dumfries Road, Catlett, VA.
