" Elisabeth Maria Huber, 91, of Dahlgren Virginia, passed away peacefully at home, on February 6, 2023. She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Hartmut Huber, son Thomas Huber, and daughter and son-in law, Johanna and Scott Brudvig.
Born July 17, 1931, in Sandbach, Germany, to Konrad and Rosa Huber, Elisabeth grew up during World War II in Passau and graduated from the city business school in 1948. She married Hartmut Huber in 1957 and took up residence in Munich before emigrating to the United States with her husband and two young children in 1965.
A loving wife and mother, and an exemplary cook, Elisabeth created a space of warmth and joy for the family, and continuously took great care to make sure the children did not forget their German heritage, family, songs, and language. Elisabeth loved life in America, the small German community in King George county, and being able to work with friends, learn pottery, enjoy gardening, reading, and most of all, the closeness of her family.
Elisabeth was also an adventurous traveler, visiting family, friends and points of interest throughout Europe, exploring China and driving cross-country to sojourn in Monetery, California for a year. And, though she was not inclined to travel by water, she was an avid supporter of Hartmut’s passion for sailing—she was with him in spirit and kept the candle burning in the window for his safe return.
Elisabeth was the heart and soul of the family, enriching our lives with love, kindness and joy. We are deeply grateful for that and will miss her very much.
A memorial service is being planned for Spring.

Lisl was the mother of Johanna, my brother
Scott’s wife. Over the years, she and her husband, Hartmutt, have become family to me. She was always a source of fun and joy. And her Christmas cookies were divine. We will miss you, Lisl. Rest gently in the loving arms of the Lord.
